ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

ENRICHMENT BY LORNA WHISTON SCHOOLS

Our Primary English Enrichment classes focus on building the student’s vocabulary and developing proficient reading and writing skills. Weekly lessons alternate between a focus on composition writing and reading comprehension. Other syllabus areas are integrated throughout the lesson. A formal oral language activity, show and tell or stimulus-based conversation, and listening comprehension will be undertaken at the beginning of every term. This is to ensure the students are empowered with skills to succeed when they are given these tasks at school.

Our teachers go to great lengths to ensure that each student’s abilities and needs are taken into consideration and differentiate activities based on that. We provide regular training for our teachers so that they are aware of the Ministry of Education’s English Language Syllabus.

As students work with our team of passionate educators, we hope that they develop confidence in using Standard English to express themselves. Over time, our students display a sound understanding of the 21st Century skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.

SPEECH AND DRAMA ENRICHMENT BY LORNA WHISTON SCHOOLS

In our Speech and Drama classes, drama is harnessed as a tool for learning as it involves the students emotionally, physically, intellectually and socially. Drama offers the opportunity for students to gain awareness and mastery over the use of their bodies and voice.

In our Speech and Drama programme, building on the 21st Century competencies is at the core of our curriculum as we focus on effective communication, critical thinking, creative thinking and collaboration skills. We do this by using drama as a tool to encourage our students to create, innovate, communicate and collaborate with their peers and their teacher.

Our Primary School students focus on a different aspect of communication each term in our Speak Up programme. They progress from engaging in Drama to build confidence in Term 1, to developing more effective speech and public speaking skills over the rest of the year.

In each lesson, students build their conversational and interpersonal skills through activities such as group discussions and sharing. Our teachers guide students to achieve better speech clarity and vocal expression through modelling and positive reinforcement. Teachers develop a wide range of communication in our students and empower them with 21st century skills that will be a valuable asset in a digital age.
